CDC warns of mounting threat of dengue fever

TAIPEI--The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) warned Saturday about the growing threat posed by dengue fever at home and abroad.

CDC Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang said the world continues to face a serious situation regarding the mosquito-borne disease, with Southeast Asia having recorded more cases this year than usual.

So far this year, Chuang said, Malaysia has reported 3.7 times the number of cases compared with the same period of last year, while the number of cases in Singapore is 3.6 times the country's five-year average.
