TAIPEI--The output value of flash memory chips (NAND flash) will rise in 2014, driven by strong demand for smartphones and tablet computers, according to a local market information advisory firm.
The value of flash memory chip production is expected to increase 5 percent from a year ago to US$25.2 billion this year, TrendForce said in a research note earlier this week.
The 2014 NAND Flash bit demand is expected to grow even higher, with an annual growth of 39 percent, it added.
More and more companies have started to invest in technologies related to next year's 3-D NAND flash production, with total investment expected to rise 12 percent year-on-year to an estimated US$9.2 billion, the research firm said.
