TAIPEI--Taiwan's service sector has become the most eager industry to hire new workers, as several major financial institutions are gearing up to expand operations in mainland China, market statistics showed Saturday.
Citing the statistics, 1111 Job Bank, one of Taiwan's leading online human resources agencies, said each jobseeker in the sector has been provided with 12.1 job openings on average, the highest ratio among all business sectors.
In comparison, each jobseeker in the construction/real estate sector has been provided with only 9.86 opportunities, while the ratio in the department store/retail business fare worse at 1 jobseeker to 3.51 openings, the job bank said.
Daniel Lee, director of 1111 Job Bank's public relation division, said large-sized financial holding firms, such as Fubon Financial Holding Co. and Cathay Financial Holding Co., are especially eager to recruit management associates and professionals in private banking as they have set their sights on the fast growing Chinese market.
Lee said several life insurance companies, including Nan Shan Life Insurance, Cathay Life Insurance and Fubon Life Insurance, also have launched recruitment drives, which showed the service sector's strong enthusiasm to hire.
According to the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Taiwan's top financial regulator, the local financial sector is expected to provide more than 20,000 job openings this year.
The jobs included 8,700 from banking businesses, 2,500 from securities companies, and 9,700 from insurance firms.
The average starting monthly salary will top NT$32,000 (US$1,060), the FSC said.
In the retail sector, Lee said demand for talent has been boosted by the entry of some major multinational fashion retailers, such as ZARA, Gap and UNIQLO, into the local market.
He said that due to the rising need for workers, major fashion brands are willing to offer a starting salary of NT$28,000 to newcomers.
Overall, 1111 Job Bank said enterprises have posted 530,000 job openings on its website so far this year, up 18 percent from a year earlier, and they welcome applicants looking for full-time or part-time work.
