TAIPEI--Agricultural losses from recent heavy rain have reached an estimated NT$11.22 million (US$372,101), according to the latest statistics released by the Council of Agriculture Wednesday.
Central Taiwan was the most heavily affected area, with Taichung sustaining losses worth NT$5.98 million, followed by Yunlin County, which reported losses worth more than NT$3 million, the council said.
Mushrooms, cantaloupe, edamame beans and leafy vegetables were the most heavily affected by the rain, the council said.
Heavy downpours have continued in different parts of Taiwan over the past few days as a new weather front enveloped the island, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
After heavy rain soaked Taichung, along with Changhua and Nantou counties, the bureau also issued an extreme torrential rain warning Wednesday for the Greater Taipei area as a result of the weather front.
