CWB forecasts weather to remain stormy this week

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Heavy showers and thunderstorms can be expected in Taiwan for most of this week as a new weather front envelops the island, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.

From Monday to Friday, northern, central and eastern Taiwan are likely to experience heavy rains, forecasters said, warning of sudden downpours, which are typical in the plum rain season.

The rainfall may be similar to what was seen over the past few days, when rock falls and flooding were reported in several areas of the country, the bureau said.

Temperatures, meanwhile, are expected to drop slightly during the rainy period, with the mercury hovering between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 22 and 29 degrees in central Taiwan, and 25 and 30 degrees in southern Taiwan, the bureau said.
