3D printing heavyweights to give talk at forum in Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Several local and foreign heavyweights in the 3D printing industry will be in Taiwan next month to share their insights on the latest trends and developments in the fast-growing sector, the organizers said Friday.

The day-long Computex 3D Printing Forum, scheduled to take place on June 6 during the annual Computex show in Taiwan's capital, is now open for registration, said the Taiwan Computer Association, which is organizing the forum and the show.

Takeo Nakagawa, president and CEO of Japan's Fine Tech Corp.; Suman Das, professor at Georgia Institute of Technology; HM Wang, president of China 3D Printing Technology Association; and Simon Shen, chairman of XYZprinting, a unit of Taiwanese electronics conglomerate Kinpo Group, will all speak at the forum, the association said in a statement.

3D printing technology can be applied to various industries, including the medical, auto parts and components, aerospace and molding sectors, the association said, adding that the technology has great business potential.

According to Wohlers Associates Inc., a technology consulting firm, the size of the global 3D printing market is expected to grow to US$10.8 billion by 2021, from US$2.3 billion recorded in 2013, representing a compound annual growth rate of 22 percent.
