Locals win seven medals at Muay Thai competition

TAIPEI--Young Taiwanese fighters won two silver medals at the International Federation of Muaythai Amateurs (IFMA) 2014 Muaythai World Championships in Malaysia on Thursday, bringing the country's final medal haul at the competition to seven.
Wu Che-hao won silver in the 42 kg. weight division for 14-year old boys after being defeated by Russian Aleksandr Zatinaichko, while Mona Bawtu took silver in the 14-year-old 67 kg. weight class after losing the final to Ali Akbar Rezaee of Aghanistan.
Bawtu, from Lujiang Junior High School in New Taipei, thanked Chang En-huang, the head of the Taiwanese team competing in Langkawi, Malaysia, for his support during the tournament.
Bawtu's father told CNA that he was proud of his son for showing a strong fighting spirit.
The two medals on Thursday added to Taiwan's five medals won on Wednesday.
Yeh Hui-tzu and Lin Yu-shan won gold in the 45 kg. and 51 kg. divisions, respectively, for 17-year-old girls, and Chiu Sheng-mei won silver in the same age group in the 54 kg. weight class.
