TAIPEI--Taiwan's seasonal plum rain is forecast to arrive Sunday afternoon, bringing rain throughout the island, and on Saturday the weather will be overcast with showers in some areas, the Central Weather Bureau said Friday.
Light showers are expected in the eastern part of the island, as well as in mountainous areas of Northern, Central and Southern Taiwan on Saturday, forecasters said.
Daytime high temperatures, meanwhile, are forecast to hover between 27 and 29 degrees in Northern Taiwan, and 31 degrees in Central and Southern Taiwan Saturday, according to the bureau.
The first frontal system of the two-month plum rain season will arrive in the country on Sunday afternoon.
Thunderstorms or showers are expected in Northern and Central Taiwan and intermittent rain in other parts of the island until May 8, forecasters said.
During the plum rain season, which is peculiar to East Asia and thus named because it coincides with the ripening of plums, frontal systems tend to linger over Taiwan, bringing severe thunderstorms and heavy rain for days at a time.
