Sunny days ahead, rains forecast to lighten today

TAIPEI--The heavy rains in Taiwan are likely to abate Friday, with lighter showers expected in northern and eastern parts of the country, as well as in mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said Thursday.

As a rainband from southern China gradually moves away from Taiwan, the weather will be overcast with light drizzles throughout Saturday, forecasters said.

Daytime temperatures, meanwhile, are expected to rise about five degrees Celsius as the clouds lift, according to the bureau.

On Friday, the mercury is forecast to hover between 20 and 27 degrees in northern Taiwan, 22 and 30 degrees in central Taiwan, and 24 and 30 degrees in southern Taiwan.
