TAIPEI -- Sean Lien (連勝文), the ruling Kuomintang's (KMT's) candidate for the year-end Taipei mayoral election, plans to visit Japan and South Korea in late May to inspect municipal administration and meet Taiwanese expatriate groups in the two countries, a spokeswoman for Lien said yesterday.
The KMT's central standing committee a day earlier officially nominatedLien, son of former KMT Chairman Lien Chan, to represent the ruling party in the Taipei mayoral race in November after he won the party's primary April 19.
Lien visited President Ma Ying-jeou Wednesday, the spokeswoman said while unveiling Lien's travel plans.
Details of the plans have yet to be finalized, she added.
Lien's trip to Japan will be confined mainly to Tokyo, where he will visit Tokyo City Hall, Taiwanese expatriate groups and overseas KMT chapters.
In South Korea, Lien will stay mainly in Seoul, during which he will visit Cheonggyecheon, a man-made river in the city.
