Input from the younger generations will benefit the KMT: Taipei mayor

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu(朱立倫) said yesterday that he supports the idea of adding new blood into the Kuomintang (KMT) and that the most important thing is to provide the younger generations with a sense of involvement.

The influence of the student population during the Sunflower Movement has brought a trend to the two major political parties of Taiwan, seeking to recruit new blood as well as encouraging younger generations to take on more important positions within political parties.

During his attendance at the International Educational Forum—Positive Emotional Education (國際教育論壇-教出好情緒), Chu commented on the recent trend of advocating for younger generations to take on a greater role within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the KMT.

Regarding his opinion on President Ma Ying-jeou's declaration to implement major reforms within the KMT the day before, Chu was quoted as saying "Pledging (for a reform) is one thing, how to implement it specifically is another." Chu said that everyone wishes to see an organizational reconstruction, adjustments or more opportunities for younger generations to participate in more decision-making processes. Whatever the outcome might be depends on the proposal which will be presented by the KMT in two weeks. However, said Chu, the most important thing is to provide the younger generations with a sense of involvement. Chu went on to say the KMT should have expanded decisive powers to younger politicians a long time ago.

On the ongoing tension between Ma and Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平), Chu stated that for the sake of the entire nation, the cooperation between the president and legislative speaker is extremely important. The harmony between the two positions will bring harmony to the party as well, and most importantly to the nation.
