7 Taiwan citizens injured in Shanghai bus accident

TAIPEI -- The Taiwan Strait Tourism Association said yesterday that seven Taiwanese tourists on a private bus and their Chinese driver were injured in an accident that occurred a day earlier in Shanghai after a trip to the venue of the Shanghai World Expo.

The most serious injuries were suffered by a Taiwanese passenger, who was diagnosed with a fracture and blood vessel compression, and the Chinese bus driver, according to the association, but none were considered life-threatening, the association said.

A total of 14 passengers were on the bus, which was returning from a visit to the Shanghai World Expo, when it crashed into a container truck parked on the road's shoulder on a day when visibility was poor because of rainy conditions.

The container truck driver, who was checking problems with the vehicle, was killed in the accident.
