Meeting between culture ministers canceled: gov't

TAIPEI -- Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai said yesterday that a planned meeting between herself and her Chinese counterpart has been canceled due to disagreement over how they should address each other.

The Ministry of Culture had previously unveiled a plan to hold a cross-Taiwan Strait culture forum in Taipei in June that would include a dialogue between Lung and Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu.

When asked about the matter during a legislative hearing Thursday, Lung said the forum will now be organized by a non-government organization and that her dialogue with Cai has been called off.

The date of the event has also been postponed to the second half of this year, with the issues on the agenda to include culture-based creativity, community building, underwater archaeology, exchanges between museum personnel from the two sides and performing arts.
