ROC student is youngest winner at Moscow show

TAIPEI--A 12-year-old from Taitung County became the youngest award winner at an invention competition in Moscow earlier this month when a pair of scissors with moveable pivots she designed grabbed a silver medal.

Chou Chia-yi won the award at the Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovation Technologies “Archimedes” for the special scissors, which were based on an idea she had and created with two schoolmates from Bin Mao Junior High School in the eastern county.

Chou said the inspiration for her idea came from the way her mother was constantly changing between scissors of different sizes to cut different objects, such as cloth and flowers.
