Shoe maker opens factory in Dominican Republic

TAIPEI--A major Taiwanese footwear manufacturer has opened three factories in the Dominican Republic that are expected to produced 1 million shoes each month and eventually create 11,000 jobs, according to a press release issued by Taiwan's embassy in the Caribbean country.

Hong Fu Footwear Group held the inauguration ceremony on April 2 at the Tamboril industrial processing zone in Santiago, attracting more than 400 business leaders and Dominican officials, including President Danilo Medina.

Taiwan's Ambassador to the Dominican, Tomas Hou, was also present when Medina cut the ribbon to open the new shoe-making factories, Hou's office said.
