TAIPEI--The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) was optimistic Saturday that the export of Taiwan's dancing-doll orchid to the United States could begin by the end of the year after Washington responded positively to Taiwan's long-standing request for the first time.
U.S. officials said that regulations governing the import of the orchid with potting media from Taiwan will be made public in the second half of this year, MOEA said in a press release.
Potting media, usually consisting of bark and dried plant fibers, are necessary for orchids' health and survival during transportation.
The release of regulations will be followed by a two-month period of public reviews and comments. Based on that time frame, MOEA estimated the export of the orchid could start by the end of the year at the earliest.
