TAIPEI--Taiwanese office workers who do not have children and plan not to have any are making the choice mainly because of insufficient financial resources, the fear of being tied down and the lack of a prospective spouse, according to a new survey.
In the survey conducted between March 17 and April 1 by 1111 Job Bank, respondents without children were asked whether they plan to have children.
Among the 36.9 percent who said they did not, over half (51.61 percent) said it was because they do not have the means to raise children.
Nearly 39 percent said they don't want to lose their freedom and 32.26 percent said they have not found the right person with whom to form a family.
The survey also found that more than 69 percent of respondents with children said their sense of happiness had increased with the arrival of their children, with male workers reporting a higher degree of happiness than females.
A total of 1,168 persons were questioned in the survey.
