More Taiwanese going natural after cremation

TAIPEI--A growing number of people in Taiwan are choosing natural ways to dispose of cremated remains thanks to efforts by the government to promote these options over the past decade, the Ministry of the Interior said Friday.

Due to limited land availability, cremation is currently the most common method used in Taiwan to legally dispose of human remains, with 92.47 percent of the people who died last year being cremated, the ministry said.

Besides the traditional method of storing the cremated remains in columbariums, various natural ways to handle the ashes have been offered since 2001.
