University head mediates government & protesters

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- National Sun Yat-sen University President Yang Hung-duen is acting as a mediator between the government and student-led protesters occupying the Legislative Yuan in the hope of finding a solution to their standoff, Education Minister Chiang Wei-ling said Saturday.

Yang will talk to the students about the idea of establishing a 10-person dialogue platform, with the government and the students each providing five delegates, Chiang said.

The proposal was raised by a group of university heads during a meeting with President Ma Ying-jeou a day earlier and was readily accepted by Ma.

The five government-assigned delegates are likely to include university heads and economic and legal experts, Chiang said.

If the students also agree to the proposal, the two sides could simultaneously announce the names of their delegates that evening, he said.

Do you really believe the "students" will accept this proposal when they are even dictating to the legislature and the president what to do? They and their puppeteers believe that they are the economic experts of Taiwan. They have dictated to the elected lawmakers and elected officials to scrap the trade agreement, hallucinating that they have been elected by the people. What a piteous bunch of losers!
