NIA's e-Gate and APIS win IT app award

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Automated Immigration Clearance System (e-Gate) and Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) adopted by the National Immigration Agency (NIA) were honored with the "Taiwan World-Class Information Technology Application Award" by the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C., (CISA, 中華民國軟體協會) yesterday, acknowledging the practicality of both systems in safe guarding the borders of Taiwan.

CISA held the very first Taiwan World-Class Information Technology Application Award at the National Taiwan University Hospital International Convention Center yesterday, accrediting the NIA systems for performing outstanding results in the forefront of immigration protection. Of the various candidates who applied, NIA received two awards amongst many.

e-Gate has been installed in Taiwan's four major airports and the Port of Kinmen. Built with state-of-the-art Radio-frequency identification technology (RFID), e-Gates have been used by over 10 million people, passing through customs quickly as a result of the 12 seconds response time of the RFID. The system has since been available to ARC and APRC holding immigrants.

APIS has also detected and seized over 5360 people since its initiation in 2011, working closely with airlines arriving and embarking from Taiwan to prevent illegal activities from entering the country.
