Taiwanese pitcher re-ups contract with MLB team

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Cleveland Indians Major League Baseball team announced yesterday that it has renewed a one-year contract with Taiwanese pitcher Lee Chen-chang, a right-hander who is currently taking part in the team's spring training in the United States.

The 27-year-old reliever, who had pitched in the Indians' minor league organization since 2009, became in July last year the ninth Taiwanese player to move up to the majors.

The Penghu native is now hoping to be added to the Indians' 25 man roster.

During the current spring training, Lee has pitched two innings in two games, with one save.

He surrendered four hits, two earned runs, four strikeouts and three walks during his 4.1 innings in eight outings in 2013.
