Central Taiwan Science Park offers over 1,500 job openings

TAIPEI--The Central Taiwan Science Park held a job fair yesterday, with 28 of the major high-tech firms in the country offering more than 1,500 job openings in response to an increase in jobseekers after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Local employees tended to eye new job opportunities following the Lunar New Year holiday, a period of time when many people look to switch jobs after having received year-end bonuses from their previous employer.

The 28 employers in the job fair included the world's largest contact chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., flat panel supplier AU Optronics Corp., integrated circuit packaging and testing services provider Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. and machine tool producer Hiwin Technologies Corp., the industrial park administration bureau said.

These employers aim to recruit 292 engineers, 1,134 production line workers and 92 administrative staffers, the administration bureau added.

The recruitment activity opened at 9:30 a.m. and will run through 12:30 p.m. According to the administration bureau, about 1,500 job applicants had showed up in the event as of 10:40 a.m. The bureau said it expects the event will attract more than 2,000 jobseekers.

The job fair was organized by the National Science Council, which supervises the operations of Taiwan's science-based industrial parks, and the Ministry of Labor (MOL).

In addition to the recruitment activity, the bureau said experts from the MOL will provide advice to job applicants on how to write a good resume in a bid to attract employers' attention, while briefing jobseekers on the ministry's program to assist them to land a job.

According to the bureau, the central science park had a total of 119 local and foreign high-tech firms operating there, hiring 31,256 workers, as of the end of January.
