TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan has been selected as the host of the 2014 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), a Ministry of Education official said Friday, adding that over 1,000 students from more than 80 countries will attend the event.

The competition will take place at the Taipei International Convention Center on July 13-20, said Wang Tso-tai, chief secretary of the ministry.

Taiwanese students have performed well at past Informatics Olympiads, Wang said, winning 73 medals since first participating in the competition in 1994.
