KMT spokesman resigns after four-month tenure

TAIPEI--Yang Wei-chung (楊偉中) announced that he has resigned as spokesman for the ruling Kuomintang, with immediate effect.

The KMT has not named his replacement. A 42-year-old former activist and journalist, Yang assumed the position as recently as October 2013.

Some KMT politicians have asked him to resign to avoid any possible conflict of interest after his wife, Chen Yi chen (陳以真), announced her bid for party nomination to run in the Chiayi mayoral election in November.

Sources within the KMT, however, declined to comment on whether Yang's resignation had anything to do with his wife's mayoral bid.
