Chinese University of Hong Kong offers full scholarship for Taiwanese students

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Chinese University of Hong Kong is hoping to attract Taiwanese students this year by offering a full, four-year scholarship worth some US$90,000, the latest effort by schools in the financial hub to draw top Taiwanese minds.

The university held a recruitment event in Taipei Sunday, its third in recent years, which drew over 100 students and their families.

Seeking to import Taiwan's top brains, the school is providing one full scholarship of HK$175,000 (US$22,566) given annually for four years, a tuition-only scholarship of HK$120,000 per year, and grants of between HK$30,000-HK$100,000 per year.

A student surnamed Chen from the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University said he is considering studying in Hong Kong, as the experience will help boost his competitiveness and broaden his horizons.

A senior at Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School surnamed Lin said she was interested in the university's wide range of scholarships and proximity to Taiwan.

The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the City University of Hong Kong have ramped up efforts in recent years to draw in Taiwanese scholars with attractive scholarships
