Memorial events to mark 67th anniversary of 228

TAIPEI -- A number of events have been set for Feb. 28 to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the 228 Incident, an anti-government uprising and subsequent brutal crackdown.

The Taipei City Government and the municipal Taipei 228 Memorial Museum are jointly organizing a concert at the city's 228 Peace Memorial Park for the Friday morning, followed by a memorial service in the afternoon.

Other concerts are also planned starting Feb. 25 at the plaza in front of the museum.

The Memorial Foundation of 228 is also planning film screening at the nearby National 228 Memorial Museum on the date of the tragedy's anniversary.

Just a few blocks away, university students will put on music and theater performances at Freedom Square in front of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall alongside exhibitions and accounts of the event by scholars and victims and their families.

Outside of Taipei, a memorial concert is planned in Chiayi City, where an exhibition showcasing pictures and documents from the incident will run from Feb. 27 to March 23.
