TAIPEI -- Web portal PChome Online Inc. apologized yesterday for an unintentional release of its members' private photo albums via smartphones.
The company said it fixed the glitch immediately after it was informed of the problem the previous day.
“Now our services, especially via smartphones, are functioning normally,” it said in a text message to the media.
It said the breach of data was due to a “failure to simultaneously upgrade its software for smartphones.”
The company expressed its “deepest and sincerest apologies for any inconvenience” caused to its members.
Among its 14 million mostly Taiwanese members, some 1 million had online photo albums, PChome said, but declined to say exactly how many users were affected by the breach or whether they will be compensated.
