Taiwan to see cold, wet weather in coming week

TAIPEI--A solid cold air mass moving south is expected to exert its strongest influence from Feb. 10, bringing rain to all parts of Taiwan and temperatures as low as 10 degrees Celsius in the northern half of the island, the Central Weather Bureau said Friday.

The intermittent showers that began Thursday will intensify, becoming persistent rain during the weekend in northern and eastern Taiwan, the bureau forecast.

It predicted that the cold, wet weather will persist islandwide after Sunday, with the heaviest rains likely to fall between Feb. 9 and Feb. 11.

The rain is expected to let up somewhat on Feb. 12 and 13, but brief showers are likely to continue throughout most of Taiwan, the bureau said.
