Mercury to drop on Sat. following warmer spell

TAIPEI -- Temperatures are expected to rise around Taiwan Thursday and Friday due to a warm air mass brought by southeasterly winds, but will begin to fall again Saturday with the arrival of a cold front, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The mercury around the nation will dip even further between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12, with northern Taiwan expected to see lows of 11 degrees Celsius, according to the bureau.

On Friday, lows are expected to drop to 14 degrees in Northern Taiwan and 17-19 degrees in Southern, Central and Eastern Taiwan. Daytime highs however could exceed 22 degrees around the island, with the south experiencing highs of up to 26 degrees.
