Temperatures expected to decrease today: bureau

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The northeast seasonal winds that will arrive in Taiwan will result in a noticeable temperature drop in the north and northeast regions on Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The bureau explained that temperatures will drop by 7 to 8 degrees Celsius during daytime in the north and northeast of Taiwan on Tuesday compared to temperatures on Monday.

Hsieh Pei-yun, a member of the CWB, pointed out that the weather was relatively warm and sunny yesterday in the western parts of the island, with the highest temperature, 29.1 Celsius degrees, recorded in Taichung.

Hsieh said that yesterday's temperature in Taichung was the highest temperature recorded so far in this season.

However, temperatures will start to change as the northeast seasonal winds approach, and the probability of precipitation will increase in the north and northeast areas Monday night, Hsieh said, adding that temperatures will start to drop on Tuesday.

Temperatures will fall by 7 to 8 degrees in North and Northeast Taiwan and approximately 3 degrees in Central Taiwan on Tuesday, Hsieh said.

Temperatures in South Taiwan will fall by only 1 to 2 degrees on Tuesday, Hsieh added.

According to the CWB, the temperature difference between the northern and southern parts of Taiwan will be substantial on Tuesday, so people who plan on traveling from the south to the north on Tuesday should bring a jacket, since the temperature will fall as they head toward the North.

The CWB also said that there will be rainfall in the north, east and mountainous areas in Central Taiwan on Tuesday, and that it will be cloudy in most parts of the island. People planning on traveling to the North are advised to bring rain gear.
