Mercury Life gives child welfare group NT$1 mil.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Mercury Life Insurance (MIL) has raised NT$1 million for charity by selling figurines with the help of the Taiwanese pop band Mayday.

The money has been donated to the Child Welfare League Foundation (CWLF), whose chief executive Chen Li-yun accepted a check of NT$1 million on behalf of her group from MIL Chairman Liu Chung-hsiung at a recent ceremony.

The charity campaign managed to sell 2,000 Boby figurines last year to mark the company's 20th anniversary.

Liu said his company will continue to devote efforts to advancing the welfare of children, materializing its commitment to society, Liu said, adding he hopes more firms can devote themselves more to the charity.

The donation is expected to help fund the health insurance for 1,800 children, and sponsor extra-curricular learning of another 150 children in remote areas.
