Legislature approves Land Agent Act reconsideration

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Legislative Yuan yesterday voted in favor of the Executive Yuan's proposal to reconsider a recently passed amendment to the Land Administration Agent Act.

Premier Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺) was quoted by Executive Yuan spokeswoman Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) as saying that he appreciates Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng's (王金平) help in coordinating the vote.

Jiang also thanked Legislative Yuan Vice Speaker Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) and the Kuomintang (KMT) caucus, as well as independent Legislator Chen Hsuen-sheng (陳雪生) for their support, Cheng said.

The spokeswoman said that the reconsideration right is an important mechanism provided by the R.O.C. Constitution, noting that the Executive Yuan felt compelled to request that the Legislature reconsider the bill, as it would otherwise shatter the core value of the government's real transaction price registry system, pose a huge impact to the nation's housing market and contradict the values of land justice.

Jiang said he had already requested the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) propose supplementary regulations to the bill at the upcoming legislative session.

MOI 'appreciates support'

The MOI released a press statement after the Legislative Yuan's decision saying that it appreciates the Legislature's support over the reconsideration proposal.

The ministry noted that it will propose amendments to the Land Administration Agent Act, Real Estate Broking Management Act and relevant regulations regarding the real transaction price registry system to better protect the land administration agents' rights.
