Taxi rates to vary across Taiwan during Chinese New Year holiday

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taxi fares in the Greater Taipei area, including Keelung City (基隆) were raised on Jan. 25 by an additional NT$20 for all fares between 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with an additional NT$40 fee for fares between 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
New Taipei City's Wulai (烏來) and Ruifang Districts (瑞芳) will also apply a 20-percent hike all day during Chinese New Year.
Taichung (台中) and Hualien (花蓮) will charge an additional NT$50 on top of the 10-percent late night surcharges. Tainan and Kaohsiung will charge an additional NT$50 during the daytime.
Taoyuan (桃園) will raise its taxi rate from today until Feb. 4 - with a starting price of NT$95 for distances no greater than 1,250 meters plus NT$5 per each additional 250 meters.
Hsinchu County (新竹) is similar to Taoyuan, with a starting price of NT$100 for distances within 1,250 meters and an additional NT$5 for every additional 250 meters.
Taitung (台東) will raise the taxi rate from today until Feb. 4, with a starting price of NT$100. The fare will be charged on a late night surcharge basis plus an additional NT$50 fee.
