Taiwan lawmakers have layover in New York City

NEW YORK--Three lawmakers from Taiwan made a transit stop in New York Friday on their way home from a visit to Panama and Peru.

Legislator Yang Ying-hsiung of the ruling Kuomintang was traveling with colleagues Chen Ou-po and Hsiao Bi-khim of the Legislative Yuan's Foreign and National Defense Committee. Chen and Hsiao are both members of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party.

During their transit stop, they visited leaders of Taiwanese expatriate communities to whom they extended Lunar New Year greetings.

Yang said the trip to Latin America during the Legislative Yuan recess was part of the committee's efforts to seek foreign support for Taiwan in the international community.
