TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng said on Friday he would support former Vice President Lien Chan's son if he was nominated by the ruling Kuomintang for the Taipei mayoral race.
Wang described Sean Lien as a well-educated man who has assistance from a lot of politically-experienced people and who would make a “good” mayor for the capital city.
The younger Lien has yet to announce his bid for the Taipei mayoral race, but has been widely considered the KMT's best candidate for the year-end election.
Reports have claimed that many KMT heavyweights, including Vice President Wu Den-yih and Wang, have thrown their support behind Lien.
“I certainly would support him,” said the Legislative speaker when asked whether Lien would have his blessings if he won the party primary.
Asked if the senior Lien had solicited support for his son, Wang said the former vice president had never talked with him about the election.
The KMT has yet to conduct the primaries for the year-end local elections.
