Housing agent denies reports of detective agency blackmail

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Billy Yen (顏炳立), general manager of Debenham Tie Leung Ltd., yesterday released a statement via his lawyer saying that a private investigation agency did not extort or intimidate him.

A local news publication on Wednesday published an article claiming that Yen was videotaped by a private investigation agency while he was having sex. Several media outlets claimed that the agency blackmailed Yen with the tape and asked for NT$1 million, but that Yen refused to be threatened and reported the incident to police last year.

Yen yesterday denied the reports and said it was not an intimidation but a verbal dispute and misunderstanding, noting that he had already reconciled with the agency.

Yen urged local media to stop reporting untrue information regarding the dispute between him and the agency, noting that should a media source report any false information that could tarnish his reputation, he will press charges to protect his rights.
