Taipei DOH discovers animal products in veggie restaurants

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Taipei City Department of Health (DOH) yesterday announced that several famous vegetarian restaurants' products contain non-vegan ingredients, including Jen Dow Vegetarian Buffet and Easy House Vegetarian Cuisine.

The DOH said to better protect consumers' rights, the department last September inspected 26 dishes from a number of vegetarian restaurants in Taipei and discovered that five dishes contained animal ingredients. It had already requested that restaurants remove animal products from their dishes in accordance with regulations, the DOH said.

Jen Dow Vegetarian Buffet was quoted by Central News Agency as saying that the ingredient provided by the same food manufacturer passed the DOH inspection in 2013, noting that it had no idea that the inspection result would differ from last year.
