Police expand CNY holiday services for foreign residents

TAIPEI -- Police around Taiwan are expanding their services to foreign residents during the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays to ensure home security during any temporary absences, Taipei City Police Department (TCPD) said Sunday.

From Jan. 21-Feb. 14, police patrols will be increased in communities where foreign nationals have homes, the TCPD said.

In cases where foreign residents plan to travel overseas during the Lunar New Year holiday period, they can ask local police to install a duty log box in their vicinity as a means of protecting home security, according to the TCPD.

Patrolling officers are required to sign the log regularly to record their presence in the area, the department noted.

To request such a service, foreign residents can call the foreigner service hotline at 110 or 0800-024-111, the TCPD said.
