Ginkgo reimbursements reduced due to controls

TAIPEI--National Health Insurance reimbursements for ginkgo prescriptions have been greatly reduced in recent years since controls were imposed on its prescription, the National Health Insurance Administration said Friday.

Reimbursement for ginkgo prescriptions was around NT$270 million (US$8.98 million) in 2005, but after the controls were implemented in October 2006, they were cut to around NT$160 million in 2007 and only NT$49 million in 2012.

The number of prescriptions was also reduced from 740,000 to 460,000 during the period, the administration said.
