Culture ministry's move to save NT$67 mil. annually

TAIPEI--The Ministry of Culture said yesterday that its relocation from Taipei to a government building in New Taipei later this month will save the treasury over NT$67 million (US$2.22 million) annually in rent.

The move will begin Jan. 16 from a rented space in Taipei's Zhongzheng District to a newly constructed Cabinet building in Xinzhuang District in New Taipei and the ministry will open for business at the new location from Jan. 22, according to Hung Shih-yu, director of the Ministry of Culture's secretariat.

Currently, the rent for the culture ministry's office space in Taipei is NT$5.636 million per month, which amounts to NT$67.632 million a year.

The twin-tower building in New Taipei, constructed at a cost of NT$6.1 billion, will host 13 government agencies and 3,500 employees.
