ROC's Chen awarded title of Asia's Best Female Chef

TAIPEI--The head chef at a French restaurant in Taichung has been honored with the title of best female chef in Asia in 2014 by French champagne house Veuve Clicquot.

Lanshu Chen is expected to travel to Singapore to receive her award as part of the Feb. 24 ceremony honoring Asia's 50 best restaurants, sponsored by upscale water brands S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.

"To receive recognition from each of the culinary experts of the world's top 50 restaurants is an extraordinary achievement for me," said the 33-year-old, who is the first Taiwanese to receive the award.

Chen, who heads the kitchen at Le Mout Restaurant in Taiwan's central city, said that food has been an irreplaceable element in her life as she grew up.

The 34-year-old has loved cooking since she was young and appreciates the joy of sharing the happiness brought about by good food.

She has traveled around the globe as a culinary tourist.

After graduating from National Taiwan University's Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, she decided to dedicate herself to her passion and traveled to Paris to study at ESCF-Ferrandi, one of France's esteemed culinary institutes.
