TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) yesterday investigated the former secretary, surnamed Hsiao, of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi, Vietnam who reportedly sold students' visas illegally.
Hsiao was reported to accept bribes to issue students' visas with the help of a local agent, surnamed Tsao, and may have violated Taiwan's Anti-Corruption Act.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs'(MOFA) spokeswoman Anna Kao (高安) said that MOFA actively transferred this case to the MOJ and they will continue to cooperate with authorities to unveil the truth.
Kao also said that MOFA reported the case to authorities immediately after it learned of this case and denied a local report that said MOFA refused to investigate it.
