CNATAIPEI -- Taiwan will likely face wet and chilly weather until the weekend because of a cold air mass is moving in, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.

Northern and northeastern Taiwan could see rain over the next few days, with temperatures to drop islandwide beginning Thursday, forecasters said.
Daytime highs will plunge by about 10 degrees Celsius to 14 degrees in northern Taiwan and 17 degrees in central Taiwan, while highs in southern Taiwan could fall 5 degrees to the low 20s, the bureau said.
Daytime lows will fall to between 11 and 13 degrees islandwide, and snow is likely in mountainous areas, according to the bureau.
The weather should become milder beginning later Saturday as the cold air mass weakens, the bureau said.
A drier weekend is expected across the island, with temperatures ranging from 14 to 23 degrees, it said.
