Premier orders Cabinet to devote NT$3 bil. for youth business start-ups

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Premier Jiang Yi-huah (江宜樺) ordered the Cabinet yesterday to form a cross-ministry "entrepreneurial platform for young adults," saying that the government will devote NT$3 billion over three years to the platform in order to boost economic growth.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) yesterday was invited to deliver proposals on assisting young adults in starting their own businesses, including specific loan plans to medium- to small-size enterprises, as well as entrepreneurial consultations for young adults.

Jiang requested Minister without Portfolio Feng Yen (馮燕) convene and integrate the resources of 12 ministries in order to work on 43 schemes for the platform, noting that as President Ma Ying-jeou's New Year's speech stressed that the goal of the year is to unite and boost Taiwan's economic status, it is essential that the Cabinet put their strength in helping young adults start their own enterprises and work to elevate the economy.

Jiang also requested that Feng further review and improve the relevant proposals raised by each ministry, adding that revised versions of the plans should be submitted to the Cabinet again within one month.

The premier went on to say that the MOEA at the same time should establish an information platform for young adults to gather information by utilizing their smartphones or computer tablets, ensuring that people can obtain useful information such as loan plans, entrepreneurial consultations and investment advice on the Internet.
