TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Current good weather will only continue until this morning, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB,中央氣象局) forecast yesterday, with estimated lows to dip under 12 degrees Celsius due to the influence of an incoming cold air mass.
According to the CWB, the lowest temperature around the Taipei area today was about 14 degrees to 15 degrees Celsius, with the eastern cities of Hualien (花蓮) and Taitung (台東) and the southern city of Kaohsiung (高雄) seeing temperatures of about 16 to 17 degrees.
Although temperatures will continue to increase by one or two degrees in the daytime, the front will bring rain showers to the northern and eastern sides of the island, the CWB said.
The CWB also pointed out that today will be the warmest day of the following week, with the general temperature today in Taiwan around 23 to 26 degrees. As the front approaches in the afternoon, there will be showers in the north and east of the island.
From Jan. 3, temperatures will continue to drop from the influence of the incoming cold air mass, which will also bring rain to the north and east of the island. The continental air mass will arrive on Jan. 4-5, with lows estimated at 12 degrees during that period.
The cold air mass will remain until Jan. 6, according to the CWB.
