Drier weather expected through New Year's Day
CNATAIPEI, Taiwan -- Those who plan to attend outdoor countdown events on New Year's Eve or flag rising ceremonies on the first day of 2014 should benefit from more moderate weather conditions, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.

Thanks to decreasing moisture, cloudy to clear skies are expected overnight across the country, and daytime low temperatures could rise slightly by some 2 degrees island-wide, forecasters said.
The lows should range between 14-16 degrees in northern Taiwan, 13-17 degrees in central Taiwan, and 15 to 21 degrees in southern Taiwan, it said.
The bureau cautioned, however, that open areas in central Taiwan could see temperatures as low as 12 degrees and greater variations between highs and lows.
The generally warming trend could continue until Thursday, when highs could reach 23 degrees in northern Taiwan and 25 degrees in southern Taiwan, the bureau said.
