President approves promotion of 27 military generals: MND

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- President Ma Ying-jeou has approved the promotion of 27 senior military officers to the ranks of major general, or one-star general, and lieutenant general, or two-star general, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said.
Of the 27, seven will be promoted to lieutenant generals, including Chen Wen-fan (陳文凡), chief of the MND's Communications Development Office and Kuo Tzu-yung (郭自勇) of the National Security Bureau.
Another five that will be promoted to two-star generals are Chen Hsiao-ming (陳曉明) of the Army's offshore Matsu Defense Command, the MND's Hsiao Wei-min (蕭維民) and Po Hung-hui (柏鴻輝), the Navy's Huo Li-ching (霍立青) as well as the Air Force's Hu Kai-hung (胡開宏).
The other 20 people are to be promoted to the rank of major general, including a Coast Guard Administration official, the MND said.
The conferral ceremony will be held today in Taipei and will be presided over by President Ma and Defense Minister Yen Ming (嚴明). This will be the first conferral ceremony since Yen took office as the defense chief in August.
The promotions will official take effect in January, 2014.
