AIT claims no knowledge of bullets found near office

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) yesterday said it has no knowledge of the 10 bullets Taipei police found near its office, as reported by an online media outlet.

“We have not heard anything about bullets being found near AIT,” Joseph Bookbinder, an AIT spokesman, told The China Post yesterday.

An online media outlet quoted National Police Agency (NPA) sources yesterday as saying that Taipei police found 10 bullets in a drainage trench outside the AIT Taipei Main Office in the downtown Xinyi District earlier this month.

The NPA later found that the bullets were standard service cartridges from a police-use revolver, sources told Storm Media (風傳媒). The NPA is currently investigating the case in hope of finding the origin of the bullets.

Police also tightened security at the AIT office in the wake of the incident, Storm Media reported.
