One left dead in crash on mountain highway No. 9

TAIPEI--A tour bus carrying Chinese tourists collided with a gravel truck on the No. 9 provincial highway connecting Pingtung and Taitung counties in southern Taiwan Wednesday, causing the death of the driver of the gravel truck and minor injuries to most of the coach passengers, according to a spokesman for the travel agency that arranged the trip for the Chinese tourists.

All of the bus passengers were hospitalized, but most of them suffered only minor injuries, said Wang Wen-lung, an executive of the travel agent.

The tourists were from Shandong Province and were scheduled to leave Taiwan Thursday, Wang said, adding that he will decide whether to rearrange the travel itinerary after learning more about the conditions of the group members.
