TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Data released by the Minister of the Interior (MOI) yesterday on disaster-prone districts shows that in nine hillside neighborhoods considered to be at high-risk, Miaoli accounts for the most, with four of the county's districts listed in the assessment.
After recent publicity on the issue of hillside overdevelopment at Nantou County's Cingjing Farm (清境農場), the MOI demanded that local governments conduct thorough safety reviews and prepare disaster response plans for hillside neighborhoods. The MOI yesterday released data on 533 disaster-prone districts, nine of which were categorized as “Class A” or high-risk neighborhoods. Of the Class A districts, one is located in Taoyuan, and two each in Taichung and New Taipei City, with the other four all in Miaoli County.
